CW class coal hopper wagon - NZ120
CW class coal hopper wagon in NZ120 (TT or 1:120 scale).
The CW class of coal hopper wagons were introduced by Tranz Rail in 1995 as a stop-gap measure before larger CC class coal wagons entered service. The CWs were ex WAGR (Western Australia Government Railways) XBC wagons. The XBC wagons were originally built for bauxite traffic in Western Australia in the early 1960s.
The wagons were extensively upgraded in 2004-2005 by Toll Rail, by adding “hungry” boards to the top of the wagon.
