NZR DC class diesel locomotive (shell) - HOnz
The NZR DC class locomotives are rebuilds of the earlier NZR DA class (G12) locomotives, designated as G22AR (AR for “Australian Rebuild”). 80 locomotives were rebuilt in Australia and 5 in New Zealand.
At one time the largest class of locomotives numerically in New Zealand, in recent years most of the remaining DC class locomotives have been withdrawn, with a number now owned by preservation groups.
Many have also been exported, including one to Tasmania, and others to Queensland and South Africa.
Scale is HO, or HOnz (1:87 scale, 12mm gauge to represent NZ’s 3 foot 6 inch gauge track).
HOnz (1:87 scale) version is a kitset that consists of:
Body shell
Fuel tank
2x Dofasco bogies
Dynamic brake fan and vents
Handrail stanchions, brackets
Air horns, steps and other detail parts
Grills are not included and are available here.
Chassis:
HOnz: Kit is designed for the Northyard Engineering A-1-A chassis. We are investigating being able to provide these chassis as part of a kitset.
